About this tool
PDF to Word turns a PDF back into an editable Word document. Upload a PDF of up to 100 MB and our server rebuilds it as a .docx file using pdf2docx, an open-source converter that reads the text, paragraphs, fonts, tables and images on each page and recreates them as normal Word content, rather than pasting pictures of the pages. That means you can change a sentence, update a table or reuse a section in Microsoft Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice. PDFs created from Word or other software convert best. Scanned documents are different: a scan is a photograph of a page, so there is no text to recover, and it comes out as images; run it through OCR first to turn the picture into text. Very complex layouts, such as magazine pages with overlapping text boxes, may need some tidying after conversion. The PDF is sent over HTTPS, converted, returned to your browser and deleted from the server straight away.

Choose a PDF of up to 100 MB or drag it onto the upload box.
Text, tables and images are rebuilt as editable Word content on our server.
Save the .docx file. The PDF and the result are deleted from the server right after.
Open it in Word or Google Docs, make your changes, and adjust any spacing that moved.
Pages are rebuilt as paragraphs and tables, not images, so you can edit them directly.
Tables in the PDF become Word tables you can change row by row.
The .docx opens in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages.
